Recycle at the ReStore

More than 90% of the furniture, home furnishings, appliances, garden supplies, building materials, and other assorted items and other goods donated to the ReStore are cleaned, repaired or upcycled before being re-sold, totaling more than one million pounds of goods each year that are kept out of landfills. And when you buy items at our ReStore, you are buying local, meaning low fuel usage for both transporting the items to where you will be using them and eliminating fuel for shipping from a manufacturer.

In addition, the Forest Grove ReStore serves as a recycling collection point in collaboration with other agencies:

Paint

If your container of paint is in good condition, still has a top that seals and the container is more than half full, we will take it to resell in the ReStore. Paint containers labeled “architectural coatings” (also known as “house paint”), with labels still on the half-filled container of paint, is accepted. We can also accept spray paint if the container is still at least half full. Otherwise, please see the guidance from Metro Paint Recycle regarding what we can accept on their behalf to be properly and safely recycled.

Bottles and cans

Pick up blue Oregon Bottle Drop bags at the ReStore and fill them at your home or business or school with empty recyclable beverage containers (bottle or cans). Take them to an official Bottle Drop station (there’s a redemption center in Forest Grove) and a financial donation goes to West Tuality Habitat for Humanity!

Electronics

We work with Oregon E-Cycle to recycle TVs, computers, laptops, printers, monitors, tablets TVs, wires, mice and hard drives that no longer work or that are well past the point of being useful. The Oregon E-Cycles program ensures harmful materials like lead and mercury that are often found in older electronics are kept out of our air, soil and water. Please limit your drop off to seven or fewer items. If your electronics are still working and still upgradable, we may instead offer the items in the ReStore; when you donate working electronics, please let our staff know the last time you tested them or used them yourself. For those items that may have personal information stored on them, here are some simple guides to erasing your data from your computer before recycling it.

For more details about protecting your data before you drop off your electronics for recycling, see How to Wipe a Hard Drive.

Cars for homes

Donate your car, truck, motorcycle, boat, RV or other vehicle to benefit Habitat. It doesn't have to be running - as long as you have a clean title for the vehicle, we can probably accept it. Call 1-877-277-4344 or visit carsforhomes.org to get started (the Habitat donation service will even tow your vehicle!).

We also serve as a collection point for homeless shelters and other agencies regarding clothing (the donation barrel for these items is near our east entrance; please note our space is VERY limited for these donations).

When you donate to the ReStore, you help the earth and help your community.

Our ReStore in Forest Grove is proud to play a significant role in the community green cycle in Western Washington County, Oregon.

By serving as a collection point in collaboration with other agencies, the ReStore also keeps many tons of building materials out of the waste stream each year. For example, as a participant in the Metro Paint Recycling Program, the ReStore processes between 5,000 – 6,000 gallons of recycled paint.
