New “Selfie Wall” celebrates ReStore’s connection to Habitat for Humanity
The Forest Grove ReStore now has a “selfie wall” along the East side of the building, an outline of a diversity of people moving toward houses being built, a representation of what our ReStore customers help make possible through their donations and purchases: the work of West Tuality Habitat for Humanity in Western Washington County. We encourage you to take a selfie of yourself in front of any image outline on the wall, or in front of one of the house drawings, and email it to photos@westtualityhabitat.org so we can share it on social media, or tag the Forest Grove ReStore when you share your photo on social media!
Local artist Emily Lux created the mural over the Labor Day weekend. You can see photos of her creating this artwork on the ReStore, as well as our staff trying out the selfie wall for themselves, at the bottom of this article.
The Forest Grove Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a social enterprise that works to support West Tuality Habitat for Humanity in its work to promote affordable housing, undertake critical home repairs and promote housing equity in Western Washington County, including Forest Grove, Cornelius, Gales Creek, Gaston, Banks, Timber, and North Plains.
In addition to reselling donated furniture - beautiful, gently-used couches, arm chairs, recliners, hard back chairs, shelves, tables, bed frames, desks, etc. - the Forest Restore also sells construction and design tools, kitchen cabinets, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, lights and lighting fixtures, electronics, dishes and glassware, office, craft and art supplies, appliances, tiles, windows, window frames, doors, other building supplies, paint and painting supplies, crafting supplies, board games and puzzles, sports equipment, camping supplies, suitcases, backpacks, travel bags, briefcases and other carrying cases and bags, collectibles, antiques and vintage items, books, records, DVDs and VCR tapes, mowers, tillers, edgers, clippers, chainsaws, portable grills, outdoor furniture, and more. Read a more complete list of what we sell here.
Please note that all Habitat ReStores are independently operated and managed and do not sell nor accept the exact same items.
The Forest Grove ReStore also plays a significant role in the community green cycle. More than 90% of the furniture, household items, and other goods donated to the ReStore are re-sold or properly recycled with partners, totaling more than one million pounds of goods each year.
By serving as a collection point in collaboration with other agencies, the ReStore keeps many tons of building materials out of the waste stream each year. For example, as a participant in the Metro Paint Recycling Program, the ReStore processes between 5,000 – 6,000 gallons of recycled paint. Working with Oregon e-Cycles, the ReStore is a drop-off site for electronics recycling. The Forest Grove ReStore serves as a collection point for homeless shelters and other agencies.
The Forest Grove ReStore is open Mondays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and accepts item donations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
