Showing Love for Our Customers With a Special Event in August

Some of the happy customers who have visited our ReStore over the last year, with their purchases.

Thanks to everyone who turned out for our festive Customer Appreciation day at the Forest Grove ReStore on Saturday, August 10th.

The Forest Grove Restore has had record sales for several months now and the ReStore staff wanted to say thank you to the customers that made these record sales possible, and to welcome new customers to our store with a special event.

We had special discounts on the day and food for sale from Franko's Hot Dog Cart, drawing even more customers than usual on that Saturday. Pictures from the day are at the end of this article.

On the same day, Habitat staff led a tour of the ReStore to the members of the Experta en Reciclaje Curso bilingüe (Bilingual Recycling Expert Course), a joint program of Centro Cultural de Washington County & Promotores Ambientales del Condado de Washington. We explained the ReStore’s many activities that help recycle and reuse items in our community. 💚🌎

The ReStore is staffed by a mix of paid employees and unpaid volunteers. Sales from the Forest Grove ReStore support the home ownership program, the critical home repair program and affordable homeownership advocacy efforts by West Tuality Habitat for Humanity. The greater the sales in the Forest Grove Restore, the more funding for these programs in Western Washington County. The ReStore is also a social enterprise, operating in a way that generates profits in order to support a cause (in this case, affordable housing).

The Forest Grove ReStore first opened in 2008 in donated warehouse space from Henningsen’s Cold Storage. The ReStore moved into its current location on Hwy 8 in October of 2010.

The ReStore has a range of volunteering opportunities: volunteers help carry purchases to customers’ vehicles, help unload donations at the ReStore, test, clean up and otherwise prepare donations for sale, create displays of items for sale, organize books and DVDs for sale, take photos of items for online sales, research the value of items online, act as cashiers, keep the showroom clean and tidy, answer the phone and more. Here’s a very short video about volunteering at our ReStore. Sign up to volunteer at the Forest Grove Restore.

West Tuality Habitat for Humanity is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and was formed in 1991. In addition to the affordable housing program, West Tuality Habitat also has a critical home repair program for low-income seniors, military veterans, and people with disabilities, allowing them to remain in their homes and age in place.
